VUIM partners with Bread for the City, a frontline nonprofit that delivers essential services, including food, clothing, legal aid, and medical care, to low-income residents of Washington, D.C.

Through our partnership with Inova's Peterson Life with Cancer™, VUIM supports a holistic approach to cancer care that complements conventional treatment with evidence-based integrative services.

Students gain experience providing care to both patients and caregivers. The program offers free support to individuals and families across Northern Virginia, regardless of where they receive treatment.

VUIM is developing an off-site clinical internship with Memorial Sloan Kettering, one of the world's premier cancer centers.

Launched in winter 2026, the program will embed students within MSK's Integrative Medicine Service. There, they'll observe how acupuncture and herbal medicine are used alongside leading-edge cancer treatment.

VUIM collaborates with the East Orange VA Medical Center to help deliver acupuncture and complementary therapies within a comprehensive care model for U.S. veterans.

Students serve in a multidisciplinary environment that includes specialties such as dermatology, mental health, cardiology, and ophthalmology. This partnership enables VUIM students to support a population with complex and evolving healthcare needs.

The acupuncture externship at Gallaudet University Student Health Services provides accessible, culturally competent East Asian Medicine (EAM) care to Deaf+ students and the broader community through a collaboration with Virginia University of Integrative Medicine. Student interns deliver supervised treatments while working with ASL interpreters and using clear, patient-centered communication.

This model reduces language and access barriers, enhances trust, and supports pain management, nervous system regulation, and overall well-being. At the same time, it strengthens student training in cultural competency and adaptive communication.
